My interview is with a man
called Ahmed, I found him through Facebook. He used to live in Chad, He visits
his family there, he does travel to Sudan, and met people from different tribes
in Darfur, and the Fur. He wanted his identity to remain anonymous, that’s why
I could call him Ahmed, I respect his wishes, I did ask questions and with his
experience talking to the Fur people, I managed to get a few answers, so here
is a Q and A I will be sharing!
1.
Q; What is the Jangaweed?
What do they do and why?
A: The Jangaweed is a name
they call the Sudanese Arab group that comes to Fur and Darfur tribe’s villages
and steals what they can, kill everyone in sight, Burn the village, poison the
water with gasoline or whatever they please and rape the women. Why? Some
tribes believe that it is a racial war, it is because they (Fur) and other
tribes are black (African) and they (Jangaweed) are Arab. Some other tribes
believe that the Sudanese government want their land and use Jangaweed to get
rid of the Darfur people. Some tribes move away and some stay.
2.
Q: Why do some of the tribes
stay?
A: They are happy with where
they live, they like their country, they just keep rebuilding their homes, and
their families have lived there for a very long time, they keep up the
tradition.
3.
Q: How are the women coping
with the Jangaweed?
A: They do what they can, they try to protect the
children, some are afraid to walk out the tribe to fetch water or food, in fear
of getting raped and killed. Some women are alone, they have no parents and no
families because they all got killed by Jangaweed.
4.
Q: Was there a time of peace
between the Fur tribe and other tribes with Sudanese Arab’s and also Jangaweed?
A: Yes there was a very long
time ago, but they don’t know what happened over time, and why the peace no
longer exists.
